LEGISLATION

Senate clears $70B immigration enforcement package:

Senate Republicans passed their reconciliation bill funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection on a 52–47 vote after an overnight vote-a-rama. Majority Leader John Thune held the conference together, with Lisa Murkowski the lone Republican voting no. The House is expected to take it up next week and send it to the President's desk.

SENATE MAP

GOP defending 22 seats as ratings firm up:

The June 25 Inside Elections ratings put Republicans on defense for 22 of the 35 seats in play, but with structural strength: Maine (Susan Collins) and Ohio (Jon Husted) rate Tilt Republican, while Alaska and the open Iowa seat both Lean Republican. The GOP holds a 53–47 majority.

RECRUITMENT

Scott Brown leads GOP field for open New Hampshire seat:

With Democrat Jeanne Shaheen retiring, former senator and Trump ambassador Scott Brown is the early Republican front-runner in a seat Inside Elections rates only Tilt Democratic — a genuine pickup target in a swing state. Former senator John Sununu is also weighing the primary.

OHIO

Husted–Brown matchup headlines pickup math:

Appointed Sen. Jon Husted draws a challenge from former Democratic senator Sherrod Brown, but the seat still tilts Republican — a sign Democrats must spend heavily just to stay competitive on red turf.

BATTLEGROUND

North Carolina remains the marquee fight:

The open seat vacated by retiring Sen. Thom Tillis is now a true toss-up. Former RNC chairman Michael Whatley, carrying the President's endorsement, faces former governor Roy Cooper; a recent Catawba College–YouGov poll showed Cooper ahead, underscoring why national Republicans are pouring resources into the state.

DEM WATCH

Generic-ballot edge masks recruitment trouble:

Democrats lead the generic congressional ballot but still need a net of four seats for a Senate majority — a steep climb against a map where Republicans are defending mostly safe red territory and contesting open Democratic seats in Michigan and New Hampshire.

On the Record

"President Trump is fighting every day to right the ship. He sealed the border, he stood up to China, and he restored our standing in the world."

Scott Brown, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, New Hampshire
