On September 16, 2023, the Texas Senate acquitted Paxton on 16 articles of impeachment, and he resumed serving as attorney general on September 18, 2023.12 The Senate also voted to dismiss the four other article of impeachments that had been held in abeyance at the start of the trial.3 Paxton had been suspended from his position as attorney general after the Texas House of Representatives voted to impeach him on May 27, 2023.
