Mike Johnson (Republican Party) is a member of the U.S. House, representing Louisiana's 4th Congressional District. He assumed office on January 3, 2017. His current term ends on January 3, 2027.
Johnson was re-elected speaker of the U.S. House on January 3, 2025, in the first round of voting. He was first elected speaker on October 25, 2023, in the fourth round of floor voting conducted after the House voted to remove former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on October 3. McCarthy's removal as speaker marked the first time in United States history a motion to vacate was used to remove a speaker of the House.1 Click here to read more about the speaker election.
