Gmail Flags NRSC Links as "Dangerous"

In September, Gmail was caught relying on a foreign company to maintain a blacklist that Gmail used to filter emails. They agreed to drop this blacklist after significant backlash when Republican emails were getting labeled as dangerous.

A recent send from the NRSC (National Republican Senatorial Committee) had this same "Dangerous Link" warning appear once again.

The notice says that "This could be used to steal your personal information" and that "this link would open.... which has hosted phishing sites before."

The link in question leads to a WinRed page, a known safe platform for donors. In our internal review of spam rates, emails with WinRed links are significantly less likely to end up in the spam box than those from other donation processors, raising the question of why these links are now being flagged.

Services like Gmail should implement a white-label process to ensure that campaigns and organizations sending links to known platforms, like WinRed, never encounter this issue.
